ADFIMI Special Seminar on ‘ State of the art in Sustainable Development,
26-27 October 2009

Dear Colleague,

Assalam-o-Alaikum Warahmatullah Wabarakatuh,

ADFIMI invites you to BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA (B&H) for a Special Seminar on State of the Art in Sustainable Development, to be held in Sarajevo, from 26 to 27 October 2009 As you know B&H won its independence from old Yugoslavia after a gracious struggle under the great leader Aliya Izzetbegovic.

ADFIMI will be organising a seminar in Sarajevo for the first time.

The seminar will be conducted by Br. Dr. Bülent Ula?an, Research and Monetary Policy Department, Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey. The programme will be a 2 day event.

Defined as development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, sustainable development implies a broad view of human welfare, a long-term perspective about the consequences of today’s activities and the full involvement of civil society to reach viable solutions.

Since economic growth is a key requirement for maintaining development that is why we should all care about economic growth. However, it may be worth reminding that it may have side effects.

The aim of this seminar is to give an understanding of some basic facts on economic growth and development. The seminar will cover all of the broad challenges to sustainable development and some possible solutions for them such as protecting environment, stabilising world population, and eliminating extreme poverty.

Some important topics such as international development aid, globalization and foreign direct investments will also be explored during the seminar since they are directly related to overcoming these challenges.

You are kindly invited to nominate staff from your esteemed institution at your earliest convenience and not later than 25 September 2009, Friday, PLEASE.

With my best brotherly regards,

Nuri Birtek

Secretary General
