Latin American and the Caribbean Meeting on Tourism Finance and Development

The Latin American and the Caribbean Meeting on Tourism Finance and Development organized by Latin American Association of Development Financial Institutions (ALIDE) through its Technical Committee for Tourism Financing and the National Financing Corporation (CFN), from Ecuador will take place in Quito, Ecuador, on November 25 and 26, 2010.

According to the need to speed up the development of tourism in Latin America and the Caribbean countries because of its potential contribution to the growth of the economies in the region and to the development process, it is necessary to advance, on the one hand, in diversifying financing lines and programs to enable medium and long term investments so needed by the tourist sector, with the participation of international financing sources and the private financial sector. On the other hand, it is necessary to define strategies to position Latin America and the Caribbean as a premier tourist destination. These strategies are related to aspects such as marketing, price competitiveness, routes and the connections, etc.

Additionally, it is known that in the next few years the region will host two world sports events that will take place in Brazil: the Football World Cup (2014) and the Olympic Games (2016).This will be a valuable opportunity to promote Latin America and the Caribbean as a whole as a tourist destination. Therefore, the meeting will also be convenient to examine all these aspects with the participation of policy makers, financial institutions and the different stakeholders taking part in the tourism industry.
