In many developing countries, small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) serve as engines of economic growth and development.SMEs constitute the majority of business enterprises that are vital for employment generation and poverty reduction. National development finance institutions (DFIs), including microfinance institutions (MFIs), are the primary source of support to SMEs, both in terms of financial and technical assistance.
This 5-day study tour program has been structured to give a more relevant and practical approach to MSME financing and development by incorporating different avenues of learning such as briefings, direct interaction with policymakers, institutional visits to conduits of MSME funds, and project site visits leading to a fuller understanding of the significant roles that regulatory and financial institutions play in the development of MSME inthe Philippines.

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (Central Bank of the Philippines); Asian Development Bank; Land Bank of the Philippines; People’s Credit & Finance Corporation; Small Business Corporation; Center for Agriculture & Rural Development-Mutually Reinforcing Institutions (conduit of MSME funds); center visits; and socio-cultural visits.
