It started its operations in September 1987 at its headquarters in Istanbul, Turkey, on being given the status of an International Organization by the Turkish Government. The rationale behind setting up ADFIMI is to bene_ t its member institutions through the collective wisdom, resources and experience of its members.

    This provides the member NDFIs the opportunity to work together and successfully develop expertise, exchange mutually beneficial ideas and experiences and to promote cooperation in the region. ADFIMI also aspires to be ‘A forum for development’. Presently ADFIMI has 52 members in 15 countries (www.adfimi.org).

  6. 4th Development Bank Management Program (Level II, ADFIAP Credentialing Program)

    Location: Manila, Philippines
    Date: November 29-December 10, 2010

    About the Program: This two-week program is the specialization portion for Level II and intended for candidates who have attended the Core Development Banking Program (Level I). However, participants who are not candidates to the credentialing program can also attend the course on stand-alone basis. This course is relevant for participants from development banks and other development financing institutions. It is also relevant for officials from commercial banks with development finance portfolio.

    The objective of the course is to enhance the managerial and technical capabilities of middle management level personnel with focus on development banking. The course is designed to equip participants with the understanding of corporate banking management including corporate finance, marketing management, good governance, and people management. At the end of the course, the participants will be able to recognize the vital responsibilities of a manager, and to conceptualize an effective organization.

    Course Contents:

    * It consists of two groups of training modules, namely: Module Group 1: General Management and Management of People. This includes, but not limited to, the training modules on strategic management,management of people, and systematic managerial analysis.

    * Module Group 2: Bank Operation Management and Financial Management. This includes general discussion of financial management system, treasury and risk management, credit analysis for long-term investment projects, loan management, and performance management.

    Methodology: To provide a balanced mix of theory and practice in accomplishing the objectives of the different sessions, various instructional methods will be used, i.e., lectures, discussions, exercises, audio visuals and workshops, case studies, sharing, integration, coaching and individual work.

E Dr Ahmed Mohamed Ali, the President of Islamic Development Bank to confer upon him ADFIMI’s honourary membership for his lifelong contribution to development finance, now in its fourth decade, a legendary achievement by any standard. The event will also be honoured by the presence of the State Minister of Turkey, H. E. Dr.Cevdet Y?lmaz, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Turkey H. E. Mr. Durmu? Y?lmaz, H E. Ali Babacan, Minister of State, and Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey is also expected to grace the meeting.

    Established as an autonomous, independent and non-profit international organization, ADFIMI stands for Association of National Development Finance Institutions (NDFIs) in Member Countries of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB). It started its operations in September 1987 at its headquarters in Istanbul, Turkey, on being given the status of an International Organization by the Turkish Government.

    ADFIMI is one of five peer associations that were established under international development banks, namely, AADFI, ADFIAP, ADFIMI, ALIDE, EDFI under the umbrellas of African Development Bank, Asian Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, and European Development Bank respectively.

    ADFIMI is governed by a non-resident Management Committee and is headed by a Secretary General who is the Chief Executive. The association is supported by the membership fees of its members, by voluntary donations and the co-sponsorship of its members.

    ADFIMI accommodates diverse societies with different levels of development. Main objective of ADFIMI is to train human resources of member institutions on conceptual banking practices, at the global contemporary benchmark level. In this context ADFIMI organizes training programmes which are free to members, in the major cities in IDB member countries (like Istanbul, Cairo, Kuala Lumpur, Damascus, Sarajevo, etc.). Its membership of 51 now spans three continents and 15 countries.

    As can be seen from the attached schedule (Encl 1) the FORUM will deal with the following issues:

    • The effect of global financial crisis on development finance
    • Poverty alleviation: SME finance
    • The role of finance centers in development finance
    • Energy for sustainable development of IDB member countries
    • Public-private partnership
    • New frontiers and prospects for future development
    • Islamic development finance; present status and future prospects

    In addition, there will be a talk delivered by H. E. Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali, on his lifelong experience and achievements in financing development as the President of IDB. The meeting will end with a gala dinner when the President will be presented with honourary membership.

    The participants will have an opportunity to listen to the latest developments as well as an opportunity to meet the President.

    Assalam-o-Alaikum Warahmatullah Wabarakatuh,

    ADFIMI invites you to BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA (B&H) for a Special Seminar on State of the Art in Sustainable Development, to be held in Sarajevo, from 26 to 27 October 2009 As you know B&H won its independence from old Yugoslavia after a gracious struggle under the great leader Aliya Izzetbegovic.

    ADFIMI will be organising a seminar in Sarajevo for the first time.

    The seminar will be conducted by Br. Dr. Bülent Ula?an, Research and Monetary Policy Department, Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey. The programme will be a 2 day event.

    Defined as development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, sustainable development implies a broad view of human welfare, a long-term perspective about the consequences of today’s activities and the full involvement of civil society to reach viable solutions.

    Since economic growth is a key requirement for maintaining development that is why we should all care about economic growth. However, it may be worth reminding that it may have side effects.

    The aim of this seminar is to give an understanding of some basic facts on economic growth and development. The seminar will cover all of the broad challenges to sustainable development and some possible solutions for them such as protecting environment, stabilising world population, and eliminating extreme poverty.

    Some important topics such as international development aid, globalization and foreign direct investments will also be explored during the seminar since they are directly related to overcoming these challenges.
